You know the feeling. You start a journey excited and energetic, but within a couple hours of sitting still, your posture sags, your shoulders hunch, and you literally get a pain in the butt or back that’s hard to shake.
Most people can’t stop along the way to benefit from a professional massage. But there’s hope for those road warriors! Remember to pack a pair of Yoga Tune Up® balls. These therapy balls are ideal for long car rides and flights of more than two hours. Plus they’re small and fit easily in your carry-on or glove compartment.
Here are a few ways to use the Tune Up balls:
- Lower back. Therapy balls provide fantastic lumbar support and can melt away the tension you accumulate while sitting for long periods. Sustained pressure feels great when sitting. Shift your hips side to side to work pressure deep into your lower back muscles.
- Upper back. When used between your shoulder blades, therapy balls can work out the knots you get from slumping into poor posture. Sit tall and gently press the balls into your back, moving side-to-side for extra release.
- Hamstrings. Sit erect and place a ball under each thigh. Again, moving your weight side-to-side helps stretch tense muscles and gets you to your destination relaxed and pain-free.
- Glutes (Buns). Prolonged sitting puts a lot of pressure on your hips and buns. Sit on the therapy balls to chase away pain and get a gentle massage. They also help you sit taller and gain a little height.
Ideally, try to maintain good posture when sitting for a long time. Sit up straight and tall, elongate your spine, and use your abdominal muscles to help support your back.
Remember to always keep safety in mind, especially when driving. Don’t get so distracted that you endanger yourself!
